Jesus assured His early disciples that those who abide in His word would know the truth (John 8:31-32;17:17).
Unfortunately, many people today have overlooked the sacred scriptures, which contain the word of God, and have embraced human traditions as their guide ( Mat 15:9). Some just follow their feeling and emotions (Pro. 14:12). To this end, the church takes up this humble challenge to inform all men that the scriptures have the exclusive power to save and to lead men in the right relationship with God, their maker (Mat. 28:18;4:4). Here’s what the Bible has to say concerning the scriptures:
“All scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instructions in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good
works” 2Timothy 3:16.
In the first century, men were confronted with the facts of the scriptures; they were told that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God (John 20:30,31, Mat 16:16, Acts 2:36-37). While many openly received that message, John 1:11-13, some became furious when they heard it and persecuted the messengers who declared the truth, but others were motivated to search the scriptures for further evidence concerning Jesus (Acts. 7:51ff; 17:11, John 5:39).
Indeed, we do not ask that you believe everything that we say; we do not pretend to know everything either, who does? We trust, however, that your love for truth and your determination to be saved would increase your desire to study the scriptures so that your knowledge concerning God’s will might expand (2Tim 2:15;3:15, 2Peter 3:18).
